Samantha is the latest sensation in Tollywood. This ‘Kundanapu Bomma’ made a glorious entry into films with Gautham Menon’s ‘Ye Maya Chesavo’ casting opposite Naga Chaitanya. The film produced by Sanjay Swaroop under Indira Productions Pvt Ltd., was released last Friday. Presented by superstar Krishna, the film is creating ripples at the AP box office as well as in overseas. Right now this gorgeous young lady on one hand is celebrating the success of her debut film and on other hand is busy in her shooting schedules of her second film ‘Brindaavanam’. In this film she is sharing screen with NTR and Kajal Agarwal. On this occasion Samantha took some time to chat with the media. Here are some excerpts:
Your name sounds very unique. What does Samantha mean? Samantha means listening to prayers. Do you believe in God? Yes! I do, a lot. But that doesn’t mean that I keep offering prayers all the time. Are you a Telugu speaking girl? No, ancestors of my father used to speak Telugu. My mom hails from Kerala and I was born and brought up in Chennai. We speak Tamil and English at home. But now I can grasp few common words in Telugu since I am in the process of learning the language. During the shooting of YMC I used to mug up my dialogues, but never felt it difficult to do so. How did you step into films? While I was studying B Com in Stella Mary’s College, I modeled for the outfits of Naidu Hall showroom in Chennai. During that period I got a film offer in Tamil. Later when Gautham Menon approached me for YMC I was a little scared to reciprocate. But then I never expected that I would be selected even after he called me thrice. I can say that it’s only by God’s grace that I got this opportunity. How was it working with a well established director like Gautham Menon? (Big Smile) Great! Actually I’m a very big fan of Gautham sir. I used to watch all his films. Heroines have special roles in his films. Gautham used to explain things to me and also encourage by always saying that I can do better. He helped me out in acting right from facial expressions. I used to simply follow what he did and showed it to me. You made your debut in Indian traditional attire like saree and shalwar kameez. Would you like to continue this trend forever? No, not at all! I’m more comfortable in modern outfits only. In general I never wear a saree or a shalwar kameez. But my role Jessi demanded more of traditional clothing. Hence I wore them. According to Gautham I’m supposed to appeal very natural like a girl next door therefore I even had no make-up in YMC. It appears your chemistry with Naga Chaitanya in kissing scenes has worked out extremely well. Naga Chaitanya never showed any attitude even though he is a son of a big star. So as co-stars we both shared good rapport. But we did nothing on our own. We simply followed what Gautham said. What was the reaction of your family members after watching the film? They are yet to watch the film because they hardly go out to watch films. Initially they were against my joining films but later I slowly convinced them. Which scene, have you felt the most difficult one in YMC? I had to say a very big dialogue in a scene where Karthik comes to see me from Goa. I did that scene even without anybody’s prompting. That was a challenging one for me. But my personal favorite scene is the one in Central Park in the US. Did you take classes in acting? No. I never expected that one day I would be landing in film industry. It just happened by chance. My friends in college say that I dance well. But my real talent will be known only after I perform one opposite Tarak (winking). Oh! By the way how did you get the opportunity in ‘Brindaavanam’? Truly, I am a very fortunate person. Offers started to chase me one by one since I began my career. I was approached for ‘Brindaavanam’ by Dil Raju sir while I was shooting for YMC. Inthis film I’m doing the role of a college girl, named Indu which is quite contrast to Jessi in YMC. You will be seeing a modern Samantha in this film. Have you ever seen Telugu films earlier? Hmm…The first Telugu film that I saw was ‘Bommarillu’. I saw this film in theater along with my friends. Although we could not follow the language, the film appeared very touching. And since I’m a big fan of Trisha I even bought the DVD of ‘Nuvvosthanante Nenodhantana’ and saw. I’m also happy that she acted in my film. Who is your favourite hero? (Phat….the reply came with raised eyebrows) Surya. He is a very handsome hero and I used to watch his films right from my school days. Your dream project? Actually I’m really very, very lucky to get to play a role of Jessi in my very first film. And another fortunate thing was AR Rahman, who is my most favourite music director composed musical scores for my very first film, which is again very unusual. After doing one such role in one such big film, if I ever dream of a better role than that at this beginning stage, won’t it be too much of expectations! So given a chance which industry do you prefer, Tollywood or Kollywood? Since I’ve a high command over Tamil language I first entered into Kollywood industry. But I made my debut in films through a Telugu film as my Tamil film is yet to release. So right now my focus is on Telugu films only. Source: ragalahari
