Amazon.com has promised to make a paid app free every day in the Amazon Appstore, and today's app is Checkers.
Checkers is priced at $1.99 in the Android Market, and is normally priced at $1.99 in the Amazon Appstore. As we noted previously, prices sometimes differ between the two stores.

A helpful How To Play section quickly brings newcomers up to speed on the basic rules of gameplay. Keep track of your progress by viewing the statistics page, which tracks Wins, Draws, Losses, and Win Percentage for each difficulty level played. Checkers is ad-free.
Checkers has a 4.8-star rating in the Android Market, and a 4.5-star rating in the Amazon Appstore.
Don't get too excited about the high ratings in both marketplaces. [Well, perhaps get excited about the Amazon Appstore rating; that's unusually high. Usually permissions paranoia alone brings down the rating.] The Android Market version has only 35 ratings to date, but 29 are 5 star. The lowest rating is 3-star, and there are only two of those.
In the Amazon Appstore, there are also 35 reviews, with the lowest rating again 3-star (two), and 25 5-star ratings.
Those who are considering "buying" a Free Amazon Appstore app might want to consider what it means to developers.
Amazon.com opened up the Appstore despite a lawsuit by Apple, which has previously trademarked the term "App Store." Microsoft has filed an appeal against that trademark, saying the term is too generic. Amazon.com has responded to the lawsuit in the same manner.
Jeopardy! is going to match two of its greatest champions against Watson, a program designed by IBM's artificial intelligence group. Ken Jennings, who won 74 straight Jeopardy! matches before being defeated, and Brad Rutter, the biggest all-time money winner on Jeopardy!, will play two matches against Watson. The matches will be broadcast over three days and will air February 14-16, 2011.
While a computer program, Deep Blue, defeated world chess champion Garry Kasparov, the game show's question and answer former is far different. IBM said the on-screen appearance of Watson, which is named after IBM founder Thomas J. Watson, will be a round avatar.
The program has already been tested in 50 games against past Jeopardy! champions, but Watson's record in those matches was not revealed. Obviously, the results of those matches were used to tweak the software for its Jennings / Rutter challenge.
One of the problems, of course, would be programming Watson so that it could respond correctly to natural language questions. That problem is addressed in the video below.
Why did IBM pick Jeopardy!? IBM said:
The game of Jeopardy! makes great demands on its players – from the range of topical knowledge covered to the nuances in language employed in the clues. Can the analytical power of a computer system – normally accustomed to executing precise requests – overcome these obstacles? Can the troves of knowledge written in human terms become easily searchable by a machine in order to deliver a single, precise answer? Can a quiz show help advance science?
It's unknown at this point how the program will "buzz in" to answer a question. Obviously a computer program will be far faster at "buzzing in" than a human.

“I wasn’t conscious about wearing a bikini as it was a script requirement. But I had to work really hard to keep my body in shape.”
She preferred wearing a plain white bikini than to a fluorescent coloured one. Ashley Rebello has done dresses for her in the film.
The difficult part was to play two different characters. She said,
“What was tough for me to portray the two looks I have in the film — at certain times it was glamorous while other times it had to be ghastly.”
The film Help is planned to release on August 13, “It’s a Friday the 13th and considering its subject the makers wanted it to be out on that day.” Says Mughda.
