“The Dirty Picture”, which features Vidya Balan in her boldest avatar ever, has been banned in Pakistan for being too explicit, but Girish Johar of production house Balaji Motion Pictures feels it didn’t deserve such treatment.
“The film, to be released Friday, was rejected by them (Pakistan),” head of acquisition and distribution at Balaji Motion Pictures, told IANS.
“The Dirty Picture”, which has got an A-certificate from the censor board, was due to release across over 50 screens in Pakistan.
According to Johar, the reason behind the ban was the “too explicit and bold” content of the movie, which also features Emraan Hashmi, Tusshar Kapoor and veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah.
Despite Vidya’s skin show and titillating portrayal of a 1980s’ dancing star, Johar says the film didn’t deserve to be banned.
“Of course not, it didn’t deserve to be banned. ‘The Dirty Picture’ fans, Emraan fans, Vidya fans and ‘Ooh la la’ fans in Pakistan, all are disappointed,” he added.
The narrative of the movie, is said to have been inspired by late southern sex siren Silk Smitha.

It was only three years ago that we saw Asin ruling the roost in Tamil filmdom. Then came trouble when she ventured into Bollywood. She had her eye set on the glamour and fame in tinseltown and started her adventure
in Mumbai with
none other than Aamir Khan in the remake of
Tamil film Ghajini. In the Hindi version of Ghajini, Asin was the
female lead role and she did quite well for herself at that. In other words, she started off in the right foot and got many more offers. London Dreams saw Asin’s dream come crashing down. She paired opposite Salman Khan in this movie that did not do quite as she expected in the Box Office.
In spite of this, she did another film Ready with Salman. This much hyped film keeps her Bollywood hopes alive even though she just has one more Hindi film on hand titled House Full 2. In the meanwhile, there were a few announcements or rather news articles that talked about Asin pairing opposite Sharukh Khan in not one but two films. Another snippet made its way to the Bollywood news circle that director Hriday Shetty was forced by actor Nil Nitin Mukesh to sign Asin for the female lead role.
Do you know who the accused is behind the spread of these rumours – none other than our dear Asin herself? Is she so desperate? Could she go to this extent to get roles or at least make it seem like she has got a number of roles in Hindi films? We can only ask her PROs who are behind this.
In fact, Hriday Shetty, naturally pissed off with the spread of these rumours said it is time Asin stopped spreading these rumours to gain publicity. He said that it is evident she is lying as he has not signed Nil Nitin Mukesh for any of his films leave alone Nitin pressurizing him to sign Asin opposite him.
Hriday Shetty also clarified that he is yet to meet Asin in person. He also said that he is at present busy with Naseeruddin Shah’s film. He also said that there is a beehive of talent in Bollywood and why would he sign a south Indian actress for his films? It is definitely time for Asin to sit up and take notice of what Bollywood feels about her.

The king of adaptations, Vishal Bharadwaj (also directed Kaminey) is back with another potential masterpiece – 7 Khoon Maaf (Seven Murders Forgiven). The ace director/music director/dialogues writer/lyricist has earned quite a name for himself by carrying out the unenviable task of translating adaptations (mainly Shakespearean) into the silver screen with unusual dexterity and finesse. Most of his previous directorial ventures, notably Makdee (2002), Maqbool (2004), Omkara (2006) and The Blue Umbrella (2007) have been successful book adaptations, garnering rave reviews from most Hindi film critics.
Bharadwaj’s latest movie 7 Khoon Maaf is a thriller based on Ruskin Bond’s famous short story Susanna’s Seven Husbands. The film is produced by Ronnie Screwvala and Vishal Bhardwaj. UTV Motion Pictures and VB Pictures Pvt. Ltd will be the banner under which the movie would be released on February 18, 2011.
7 Khoon Maaf revolves around an Anglo-Indian woman named Susanna, played by Priyanka Chopra, and her decision to go on a rampage and murder all her seven husbands, one at a time. The seven male leads have been played by Neil Nitin Mukesh (as Major Rodricks), John Abraham (Jimmy), Irrfan Khan (Wasiullah), Aleksandr Dyachenko (Vronsky), Annu Kapoor (Keemat Lal), Naseeruddin Shah (Tarafdar) and Vivaan Shah. The film also starts famous playback singer Usha Uthup as a maid and Konkona Sen Sharma in a special appear
Priyanka in 7 khoon maaf
As is the case with all Vishal Bharadwaj movies, expectations are sky high from 7 Khoon Maaf. Vishal is known for making ordinary scenes look spectacular with his Quentin Tarantino-styled direction, effective camerawork and compelling background score. Many scenes in his previous directorial venture Kaminey were absolute brain teasers, particularly those shot in the hotel. Like his other flicks, Vishal has composed music for his new film as well

Barah Aana is a comedy of real life, set in today’s Mumbai. The story revolves around three unlikely friends: a driver (Naseeruddin Shah), a watchman (Vijay Raaz), and a waiter (Arjun Mathur). The driver is an older man, stoic but dependable. The watchman, in his 30s, is a pushover at work but otherwise mischievous. The waiter is a young, swaggering chap, brimming with ambition. Living together, their different attitudes make for interesting banter.
At some point, misfortune befalls the watchman and, due to a series of chance events, he stumbles into a crime. Striking upon a seemingly low-risk way to make good money, and discovering a new sense of self-confidence, he tries to entice the others to join him in a series of such crimes. Cat and mouse games ensue between the three as personalities change, but events soon spiral out of control, leading them in a direction none of them had wanted to take. Featuring a talented ensemble cast, Barah Aana is based on an original script. The running time is 97 minutes.
CAST: Naseeruddin Shah, Vijay Raaz and Arjun Mathur
Director: Raja Menon

There is no stopping this talented director. After successfully adapting Shakespeare to an Indian milieu and making other critically acclaimed movies, Vishal Bharadwaj is aiming higher now. Currently working on Dream Sequence with Naseeruddin Shah’s son Vivaan in the lead, Bharadwaj met up with the Bachchan bahu Aishwarya recently.
Our source said, “Bharadwaj briefed Ash about a project he has in mind. He met up with her for a short while. A full-fledged meeting is round the corner where the filmmaker and the actress will have a more in-depth discussion.”
Apparently, Vishal is kicked about female oriented themes. “After Saat Khoon Maaf and Kaminey with Priyanka Chopra, the filmmaker is keen to work with other actresses as well. Also, with things not falling into place with Saif Ali Khan, Vishal feels that is far easier to work on subjects based on women,” said our source.
