osaravalli movie review

14 October, 2011 (13:21) | Bollywood Gossips, Songs and Music | By: GIRI PRASAD

Release date: 06 October 2011
123Telugu.com Rating : 3/5
Director : Surender Reddy
Producer : BVSN Prasad
Music Director : Devi Sri Prasad
Starring: Jr NTR, Tamannaah, Shaam, Payal Ghosh, Rahman

Overall Impression Of The Movie: Osaravelli is the second movie of NTR in 2011 that releases with high expectations. Firstly Junior NTR had a colossal flop in Shakti earlier this year and secondly with Mahesh Babu’s Dookudu breaking box-office records, NTR needs all his luck and charisma to ensure Osaravelli pulls through at the box-office. However, Osaravelli manages to come through as an average entertainer that might not meet the sky-high expectations.

What Is It About: Osaravelli means a Chameleon & the unique characteristic of the chameleon to change colors and blend with the surroundings is what Tony (NTR) is all about. The movie starts off in Bombay with enquiries being made of the elusive Tony who has gone underground. Tony re-surfaces in Kashmir where he bumps into Niharika (Tamannah) and its love at first sight. The scene shifts to Hyderabad where he finds that she has a boyfriend and he openly challenges her that he will break-up that relationship in ten days. In parallel, we are introduced to the police-officer trying to find Tony and the other villains like the home-minister while we only get to hear about Ajju Bhai (Prakash Raj) who controls them all. Most of the first half focuses on NTR wooing Tamannah with the help of the JP and his gang resulting in an entertaining first half. The second half goes into an overdrive with various sub-plots that explain everyone’s motives and esp. that of Tamannah who has her own mysterious background. How this ties the various characters in the story with each other and the relevance of NTR having to change personalities (or colors) like the Osaravelli is what Osaravelli is all about!!!

What Is Good: As expected, NTR puts in a good performance as Tony. While there might be nothing new in the characterization by the director, NTR manages to create an impact in his lover-boy role. He gets to mouth catchy dialogues and shine in the dance department. The biggest surprise in the performance department is Tamannah who shines in a role where she has almost equal footage as the hero. While her glam quotient was never in question, she puts in a good performance as Niharika and stands out in her scenes with NTR. Payal Ghosh as Niharika’s best friend and Sham as Niharika’s brother are good as supporting characters. The music by DeviSri Prasad is pleasant and easy on the ears with the “Niharaki” song being the best in terms of picturisation with Tamannah looking glamorous in saris.

What Is Bad: After building the audience interest in the first half, Director Surender Reddy loses the grip in the second half by trying to tie up the sub-plots which result in illogical sequences and end up dragging the story for a good length with an extremely weak climax sequence. The other big negative is the weak characterization of Prakash Raj as the villain who fails to make any impact and ends up repeating himself from his Aziz bhai’s character of “Pokiri”. It’s about time that Prakash Raj took a different take on his portrayal of villainy esp., given that he is such a talented actor. Tanikellla Bharani, Sayaji Shinde, Ajay are wasted in miniscule roles. The action scenes and the song picturisation are pretty average.

Me Thinks: Osaravelli worked only in the first half for me thanks to the chemistry between NTR and Tamannah while the second half was slow due to which the audiences might not be very happy. It might sustain at the box-office given the Dusshera holiday weekend

Tailpiece: For all the hype of setting it in different places like Dubai, Kashmir, Bombay, Vizag and some exotic island, the movie hardly does any justice to any place with most of the scenes happening indoors.

dookuru movie review photos

14 October, 2011 (12:57) | Bollywood Gossips, Songs and Music | By: GIRI PRASAD

Director : Srinu Vytla
Producer : Achanta Gopinath, Achanta Ramu, Anil Sunkara
Music Director : Thaman
Starring: Mahesh Babu, Samantha

When an actor as capable as Mahesh Babu joins forces with a director as clever and wily as Srinu Vytla, fireworks are expected. Dookudu is not only a colorfully packaged entertainer, but also is a cracker with laugh out loud comic scenes. It has all the elements that have worked for both Srinu Vytla and Mahesh Babu so far in their respective careers, and is a perfect recipe for a fun outing.

What’s it about : After a messiah of the poor, Shankar Anna (Prakash Raj), meets with an accident, his family members move to Mumbai. Shankara Anna’s son Ajay (Mahesh Babu) grows up to be a daredevil police officer who rises amongst the police ranks handling crime in his own unique way, which is otherwise considered rash. When he is assigned to bring down internationally wanted criminal Naik (Sonu Sood), Ajay cleverly sets the trap for Naik. However, when Shankar Anna wakes from the coma, Ajay is forced to put a veil of being an M.L.A. for the sake of Shankar Anna’s health. Soon Ajay realizes that Naik, along with Shankar Anna’s former trusted aides, had plotted against Shankar Anna. Ajay now has to get rid of each of them, without hurting his father’s health. What kind of methods Ajay employs, and how he fools all the criminals becomes the rest of the story.

What is Good : Dookudu is an out and out Mahesh Babu’s film all the way, with dialogues and scenes conceived to portray his abilities as an actor. That he looks ‘smoking hot’ irrespective of what he wears is a huge asset to the actor. Even dialogues in Telangana dialect sound pretty sweet when he delivers them. If anyone forgot to see how good his comic timing was in Khaleja, he reiterates it in Dookudu like a pro, matching scene on scene with seasoned actors like Brahmanandam or M.S.Narayana. Also watch out for those scenes in Brahmanandam requests SMS like kids in a reality show or M.S.Narayana’s monologue, spoofing the likes of Balakrishna, Ramcharan Teja, Jr.NTR and even Rajnikanth!

Samantha is pleasing on the eyes, though her role is pretty limited. Prakash Raj and Sonu Sood come up with reasonable performances and the huge support cast that includes Nazar, Sayaji Shinde, Kota Srinivasa Rao, Dharmavarapu Subrahmaniam, Supreeth, Masther Bharat all perform well too.

The entire first half passes away breezily, like any other Srinu Vytla movie, aided with some funny dialogues, hilarious scenes and neatly choreographed fights.

What is bad: While no one can take away the credit from the many comic situations, they go on expected lines for those who have watched Srinu Vytla’s earlier films like Dhee and Ready. The main emotional content of the film, featuring Prakash Raj and Mahesh Babu, falls short of expectations. Slow second half too plays spoil sport to an extent. However, the pre-climax is again saved by unparalleled comedy that can be seen only in Telugu movies.

Technical Departments : Director Srinu Vytla manages to surprise his audiences as he weaves comedy, scene after scene, but never forgetting that he is dealing with a star like Mahesh Babu. Yet again he got some hilarious punch dialogues from the writers and extracted strong performances from his key performers. Cinematographer K.V.Guhan’s efforts are top notch, be it in chase sequences in the streets of Istanbul or fights or songs. Thaman’s rerecording is decent in parts, but his already hit compositions have been shot well, though one would have expected more from Parvati Melton’s item number. The fight choreography is top notch, and the art department too does a decent job.

Final Point : Dookudu is a typical Srinu Vytla film with high fun quotient. It is not only a must watch for all Mahesh Babu fans, but will also be a good watch for all the Telugu families, who love going to the cinemas with families, especially in the festive season

Akasame Haddu Movie Review

20 September, 2011 (15:24) | Bollywood Gossips, Songs and Music | By: GOWRI

Akasame Haddu Telugu Movie Review

Akasame Haddu Review – Aakasame Haddu Movie Review, Rating: Navadeep and Rajeev have teamed up for this film, which has a strong message to the youth. Akasame Haddu has a decent story and comes in as a surprisingly good film. Here’s the review…

Story:

Narayana (Rajeev) is the son of a middle class man Radha Krishna (Bhanuchander). He is a merit student and comes first in class. He achieves good ranks in competitive exams. He joins Engineering and studies with the help of donation given by his college principal. He reaches final year and then comes Keerthi into his life. He falls madly in love with her but she rejects. Dejected Rajeev tries to commit suicide and he gets saved by Karthik (Navadeep). With the help of Karthik’s tips Narayana becomes close friend of Keerthi. But she can’t accept his love due to a strong reason. What is it is the key to this story.

Analysis:

This film gives a strong message to the youth who commits suicides for some reason. It educates them to see beyond the problem and get along with the life. Although the film is about a social message it doesn’t get preachy and stick to the basics. That is why it works most of the times.

However it is too predictable and we can guess what comes next. This film based on a sensitive issue and it has few sensible scenes to keep the audience engaged. But it lack commercial elements like comedy to keep them entertained. If you like to watch a film with good storyline, then this will certainly impress you.

Performances:

Navadeep is cool. His performance will be liked by one and all. Rajeev gives a decent performance. He has shown his skills as a dancer in this film. Heroine Panchi is just Okay. Bhanuchander, Tanikella Bharani and others did well in their respective roles.

Technicalities:

Mantra Anand scores music to this film and it is passable. A better track list might have come good for this one. Dialogues are simple without any nonsense. Vishwa cinematography and Varma editing are neat. Director Ravi Kiran has clarity in what he is doing. He presented the film like an experienced director.

Final Word: Akasame Haddu is a decent attempt and you could give it a try.

Akasame Haddu Movie Rating: 2.75/5

Cast: Navadeep, Panchi Bora, Rajeev
Music: Anand

Vachadu Gelichadu Movie Review

20 September, 2011 (10:00) | Bollywood Gossips, Songs and Music | By: GOWRI

Vachadu Gelichadu Telugu Movie Review

Vachadu Gelichadu Review – Vachadu Gelichadu (vandhan vendran) Movie Review, Rating: Tamil film Vanthaan Vendran is dubbed in Telugu as Vachadu Gelichadu. Starring Jeeva, Taapsee and Nanda in lead roles this movie is directed by R. Kannan. What is this movie about?

Story:

Jeeva (Jeeva) and Ramana (Nanda) are step brothers from different fathers. Ramana doesn’t like his brother and hates his family. He tries to kill his little brother and flees away from home to become a big don. Jeeva comes to Mumbai and falls in love with Anjana (Taapsee). At an instant, Ramana kills Anajana’s father accidentally. Anjana seeks revenge and asks Jeeva to get Ramana behind bars. As there is no evidence for the killing, Ramana has to voluntarily surrender to police.

Ramana disagrees to do that and Anjana leaves Jeeva and move away to some unknown place until she get to know that Ramana is arrested or killed. Later Ramana comes to know that Jeeva is his step brother and he completely ignores him. But Jeeva hunts him down and there comes an unexpected twist in the tale.

Analysis:

This is a romantic family drama laced with some action. Most part of the film goes at a snail pace and bores you to death. The scenes look stupid and out of place at times. But that is deliberately done by the director and that will be known once the twist is revealed. The final twist answers many logical errors too.

The final twist really good but our audience may compare it to the twist in Darling movie. So, the only plus point of the film doesn’t really ‘shock’ our audience. May be Tamil audience might respond to it in a better way.

The film is technically sound and the performances are alright. Script is very weak that it would be a big test to sit through the film till climax. Music and cinematography are good though.

Performances:

Jeeva is good as the protagonist. His character needs to be underplayed and he does well in doing so. Taapsee looks sweet as Anjana but has to improve her acting skills. Nandha is good in a serious role. Santhanam’s comedy lacked the kick and Rehman is good in a small role.

Technicalities:

Thaman’s music is cool. Background score is very good. Anjana Anjana and Andala Bala songs will stay with you. Muttaiah’s cinematography is an asset to the film. Cinematography arrests you right away from the start. Editing by Vijayan is fine.

Kannan is a good technician but needs to sharpen his skills as a script writer. Although he has made deliberate errors as per the script requirement, he could have made this a breezy entertainer. All the comedy scenes are gone wasted. Romantic scenes lacked the soul (deliberate, may be).

Final Word: Vachadu Odaadu is an apt title for this film from audience point of view.

Vachadu Gelichadu Movie Rating: 2/5

Banner: KV Filims
Casting: Jeeva, Taapsee
Music: Thaman S
Producer: KV Venu Gopal
Direction: R Kannan

Mangaatha movie review

August 31, 2011

Excitement and Expectations are the two Es, which are associated with Ajith Kumar's 50th movie Mangaatha (Mankatha) release. As expected, Thala rocks the show with his styles, actions and performance. However, the overdose of stunts and useless characters in the film are irritating at parts. Read on for Mangaatha review.

Story:
Sanjana (Trisha)'s father Arumuga Chettiyar (Jaya Prakash) devises a plan to steal 500 crores, the money, which was used for gambling during Indian Premier League. His gang includes Sumanth (Vaibhav), Prem (Premji), an IIT graduate, Mahat (Mahat Raghavendra), Ganesh (Ashwin Kakumanu), a sub-inspector at Dharavi in Mumbai. After their plan to rob comes to know, suspended cop Vinayak Mahadeva (Ajith Kumar) joins the team of thieves. On the other end, super cop Prithvi (Arjun Sarja) takes oath to uproot the betting business.

How they execute their plot? Will they succeed in their mission? What measures Prithivi take to bring the betting business to halt? Answers for all these questions should be seen on-screen, as the excitement of watching the movie will be lost if one reads here the entire story.

Performance:
Ajith Kumar's fans could not have expected for more from their star, as the actor has given his best performance till date. His acting, salt and pepper look with the negative shade in his character are treat to watch. Especially, he impresses the audience during action sequences. Arjun Sarja has proved, why people call him as 'Action King'. He has perfectly fitted the bill. Trisha has not got much to do in the movie. But she excels in her limited role. Vaibhav is good. However, Premiji is not a right choice for the character, as his antics fail to evoke any response from the viewers. Even newcomer Mahat also disappoints you. Jaya Prakash is at his usual best. Rest other character like Anjali and Andrea Jeremiah, who will be seen as Vaibhav and Arjun's wives, are okay.

Technical:
The action scenes are the plus and minus points of the film. Even thought, it has been wonderfully shot, overdose of those scenes in the second half play spoilsport. Nonetheless, watching Ajith Kumar's saying 'I am a mad man' and 'money money money' during stunts are good to watch. Shakti Saravanan's photography is excellent, choreography is simple but energetic. Editor Praveen KL could have been bold in his work, as some scenes are dragging at parts. Music and Songs picturisation are apt. Finally, Venkat Prabhu's direction and screenplay.

Well, the director has almost succeeded in his first ever film with a big star. The filmmaker has fabricated the story keeping all the successful elements at one hand and the tastes of Ajith Kumar's fans at other. Had he not lost the grip on the script, the movie would have undoubtedly become one of the biggest hits of Thala. The screenplay is dragging and gives you a boring experience. Adding to that, too much of characters does not help the proceedings and it is only in the last 30 minutes before the interval, the story becomes interesting. The second half thrills you with twists but irritates with too much of action sequences. However, Arjun and Ajith's climax scene is wonderful shot.

Verdict:
Mangaatha has all the entertaining elements. It is especially for Ajith Kumar's fans and the people, who love action-oriented movies. Family audience may not like the subject. One should watch for the actor's performance and Venkat Prabhu's attempt to make the movie in Hollywood style with local budget!

Director: Venkat Prabhu
Music: Yuvan Shankar Raja
Cinematography: Sakthi Saravanan
