Tonight, the Academy Awards will present the Best Picture award, as the last award of the evening. While Roger Ebert has already announced his picks, including “The Hurt Locker” as Best Picture, if you ask filesharers, it’s all “District 9.”
BitTorrent, for those who don’t know, is the popular peer-to-peer (P2P) filesharing protocol. While it has illicit uses, it also has legitimate ones. Sharing the sci-fi flick “District 9″ is not one of them.
TorrentFreak has compiled a list of the Best Picture nominees, in order of downloads. If you assume each download counts as a vote, and including all manner of downloads (such as a complete DVD rip, shaky cam versions, AVIs, etc.) “District 9″ comes out on top, over a million votes better than “Avatar,” with “The Hurt Locker trailing badly in third.”
As TorrentFreak points out, however, some of these movies have been available online for more than a year, while others only have only been leaked to the web for a short period. Additionally, those who wait for DVD quality downloads will have noted that “Avatar” only became available in DVD-quality a month ago, but “District 9″ was widely available last September.

The film Komaram Puli with Pawan Kalyan in a dual role is being delayed considerably.The latest news is that Komuram Puli is getting shot at rapid pace here in Hyderabad. The unit is busy with the shooting of the patchwork in Ramoji Film City for the past four days. The producer Singanamala Ramesh said that they are planning to release the film for the summer.This flick is directed by SJ Suryah of Khushi fame. Ajay Devgn and Konkona Sen Sharma feel their upcoming flick Atithi tum kab jaoge? is a laugh riot that shows how young couples in Mumbai deal with an unannounced guest.
“I think people will relate to the film a lot because this basically reflects the lives of young couples today in Mumbai. There are people from all over the country coming here to make their lives,” said Konkona.
The movie that also has versatile actor Paresh Rawal playing the guest is directed by Ashwni Dhir and produced by Amita Pathak. It releases Friday.
The film revolves around Puneet (Ajay) and Munmun (Konkona), a happily married couple living in Mumbai. Their life takes a turn when a distant relative, Chachaji (Paresh), turns up unannounced from a far-off village.
The chaos that follows makes it a rib-tickling comedy where the agonised couple tries various methods to get rid of him but fails every time.
It is about the comedy that happens while trying to get relief from a person who comes as a guest and shows no signs of leaving,” Konkona said.
“If people have guests from their village, there is a question of privacy. It’s not like Delhi where you have huge houses. So I think because of all these factors people will relate to it,” she added.
Added Ajay: “It’s a light-hearted film. There is sensibility along with humour. There is also an undercurrent emotion in it.” The music track of the album has failed to impress music aficionados. It sounds more like a devotional soundtrack.
The promos have gathered some buzz courtesy Paresh Rawal’s comic spark. Also releasing Friday are Road, Movie,Hello Zindagi, Rokkk and Thanks Maa.

After the success of laughter riot ‘Heyy Babyy’, filmmaker Sajid Nadiawala is all set to entertain the masses with his upcoming release ‘Housefull.’ A big-budget multi-starrer flick that boasts of a melange of Bollywood A-list actors like Akshay Kumar, Deepika Padukone, Lara Dutta, Riteish Deshmukh and Arjun Rampal, ‘Housefull’ promises to be high on glam factor.
Talking to a news daily on the hype surrounding ‘Housefull’, an elated Sajid Nadiawala said, “I’m happy that people have such high expectations from my movie. I can boast that we have made a very good product which the audiences will definitely love. We have the right cast, right script and right director and partner (presented by Eros International) and I don’t see any reason why it should not open to houseful audiences.”
“I love making grand films. I grew up on cinema with a big canvas and we have a heritage of making films for over 54 years now. We don’t cheat audiences by giving them bad content. We have the ‘Heyy Babyy’ team reuniting for the movie and we have the three lovely ladies with Arjun being the cherry on top,” added Nadiawala.
‘Housefull’ is supported by Sunil A Lulla and Kishor Lulla’s Eros International. “I hope audiences enjoy the first look, which is just a glimpse of the full on entertainment that is to follow. After the super success of Heyy Babyy, Eros is excited to join hands with Sajid Nadiadwala and Sajid Khan once again and hope to recreate the magic with this one,” Eros International’s Sunil Lulla said.
‘Housefull’ releases on April 30 and its promos are already making waves in the industry.
