Google Plus continues to get more open bit by bit, and just today made the service available to teens age 13 and up. Previously, Google Plus was restricted to people 18 and up. Along with the wave of new teenagers, Google Plus is also getting new privacy and security features--a fairly important thing if the service is to become something parents encourage their children to use.
Google is probably doing the slow rollout on purpose. This is their third or fourth wave of opening the service up. Each time it's followed by new statistics on membership, and this time will be no different. Millions of teens are going to sign up in the near future.
Google Plus Opens To Teens
Google Plus is now open to everyone 13 and up, and I'm guessing there will be plenty of takers.
This kind of news should be music to a video marketer's ears, because teenagers are among the most avid video consumers. They're also much more prone to social activity, with most of today's teenagers having grown up with mobile devices, Facebook, and Twitter.
The influx of teenagers 13 and up to Google Plus means the demographic will change almost overnight. It should also make Google Plus a more attractive social video marketing tool for brands and businesses--particularly those that create content known to appeal to teenagers: I'm thinking about action-oriented brands like Go Pro and Red Bull, music videos and music industry brands, movie trailers, etc.

We --- and experts --- have said before that earbuds and headsets may be killing your hearing. It could also be killing you, or at least, end up killing you, according to a new study.
According to a new study, the number of serious injuries and deaths occurring to pedestrians who were walking with headphones on has tripled since 2004, in the United States. In 2004, the number was 16, and in 2011, it rose to 47. The overall total during that period was 116.
The research, led by Richard Lichenstein of the University of Maryland Hospital for Children in Baltimore, was published in the British journal Injury Prevention. It was
More than half of the victims, 55 percent, were struck by trains. The remainder were hit by cars and other roadh vehicles --- including bicycles. 29 percent of the vehicles involved used a horn or other type of audible warning system to let the pedestrians know they were there, yet the pedestrians were still struck.
While wearing headphones while walking isn't really new, the increased portability of gadgets has made the situation much more prevalent.
Lichenstein said "Everybody is aware of the risk of cell phones and texting in automobiles, but I see more and more teens distracted with the latest devices and headphones in their ears. Unfortunately, as we make more and more enticing devices, the risk of injury from distraction and blocking out other sounds increases."
Drilling down further into the results, 68 percent of the injured or killed pedestrians were male, and 67 percent were under the age of 30. Sadly, nearly three-quarters of the headphone-related injuries were fatal.
