Amazon.com has promised to make a paid app free every day in the Amazon Appstore, and today's app is Where's My Water?.

Where's My Water? is priced at $0.99 in the Android Market. It is normally priced at $1.99 in the Amazon Appstore. As we've noted previously, prices sometimes differ between the two marketplaces.

Where's My Water? is described as follows:
All poor Swampy the Alligator wants to do is take a refreshing shower in his lair beneath the city. Is that so wrong? Unfortunately, his water supply has been blocked by a variety of pesky obstacles. Your job is to carve a path that will deliver Swampy the precious liquid he needs in the entertaining Disney game Where's My Water?

Down the Drain

Where's My Water? is a challenging, physics-based game complete with multi-touch controls, detailed animated graphics, and a lively soundtrack. Prepare for hours of addictive fun as you strive to help Swampy bathe while collecting his beloved rubber duckies and other special items along the way.

Meet Swampy

The entertaining story of Swampy the Alligator unfolds as you play. He's cute, he's funny, and he seriously needs a bath. But the subterranean world is conspiring against him: algae, toxic ooze, triggers, and traps are all waiting to divert the water and snuff out his innocent duckies. He needs your help!

Go with the Flow

Your finger acts as a power shovel in this game--just swipe the screen and blaze a trail through the muck and grime. Swipe, slosh, and splash to guide the water through increasingly challenging scenarios and into Swampy's pipe.

Head and Shoulders Above the Rest

Unlike most gators, our hero hates to get dirty. To clean up right, Swampy will need soap, shampoo, loofahs, and more. Collect Swampy's grooming items to unlock bonus levels. Gather all the rubber duckies on each level and tap around to locate more surprises. Earn nearly 30 achievements and score bonus points based on your time, ducks collected, and water overflows.

Waves of Liquid Goodness

Wade your way through hundreds of levels divided into themed chapters, including Troubled Waters, Under Pressure, Sink or Swim, Change Is Good, and Boiling Point. Every drop counts in Where's My Water?, a refreshing puzzler filled with good, clean gaming fun.

Check out Stretched Thin, the newest chapter in the story of Swampy where water balloons have made their way into Swampy's neighborhood. Solve these new puzzles by clearing a path for them to unlock new collectibles. Timing is everything--tap to pop the balloons to release the water at the right moment.
Where's My Water? has a rating of 4.6 stars in the Android Market. It has a rating of a 4.5-star rating in the Amazon Appstore.

Those who are considering "buying" a Free Amazon Appstore app might want to consider what it means to developers.

Amazon.com opened up the Appstore despite a lawsuit by Apple, which has previously trademarked the term "App Store." Microsoft has filed an appeal against that trademark, saying the term is too generic. Amazon.com has responded to the lawsuit in the same manner.

chance to register their trademarked names as ".xxx," a new Web domain,

Companies that missed the chance to register their trademarked names as ".xxx," a new Web domain, may find that others picked them up instead. Nobody wants a porn site with their name on it unless they do mean to do business as an adult entertainment site, the purpose of .xxx. And those who bought previously trademarked domain names may not find riches they're hoping for.

ICM Registry, the company in charge of issuing the sex site-related domain names, had a 52-day period in September and October for companies and organizations that wanted to claim an ".xxx" domain name for no other reason then to make sure no one else used their name. Among them: Disney, Target and Pepsi.

Many colleges and universities, too, rushed "to prevent their good names from falling into the hands of the pornography industry, the Associated Press said recently: "Over the past two months, they have snapped up tens of thousands of '.xxx' website names that could be exploited by the adult entertainment business."

But not everyone got in under the wire. For example, according to ICM Registry's records, a California man snapped up "Huffington Post.xxx." You won't get any result if you do a search for an actual "HuffingtonPost.xxx" website now, but in the coming weeks or months, who knows? When we contacted him, Justin Crews, the owner of the domain name, said he plans on selling the name to "anyone" who might be interested.

YouTube nears full rollout of video rental service; some studios still holding out

27 April, 2011 (07:11) | Songs and Music, Technology News | By: Technology Expert

YouTube is close to a full rollout of video rentals, something it has been testing since late January, according to a report. Only now is it launching the service in an all-out manner, however.

One potential holdup to the whole matter is a number of studios that have not signed onto the deal with Google. Those studios include Paramount and Fox and perhaps Disney, whose status is unclear. Meanwhile, Warner Bros., Sony, Lionsgate and Universal are among those who already signed deals to participate in the new YouTube rental service.

A senior executive at one of the Hollywood studio that has inked a deal with YouTube said,
"We think it will start with VOD, but broaden to include sell-through over time. We are pretty excited because we are happy to see new entrants come in transactionally rather than a subscription model."
The holdup is reportedly unrelated to YouTube per se, but rather its parent company, Google. Those studios that have still refused to sign are upset that Google about its treatment of pirate says. they want Google to take further steps including halting advertising on them, and no longer linking to them in search results.

Despite this, the service could launch as early as this week. Titles will be available on YouTube the same day that they appear on iTunes or video stores, and before subscription services like Netflix.
