DON’T SHOUT, BUT TODAY IS INTERNATIONAL CAPS LOCK DAY
It's considered poor form to use all caps when sending an IM, email, SMS, or whatever, as it's considered shouting. However, today is International Caps Lock Day, so go for it.It's a made-up holiday, of course, and it's not even a Hallmark Holiday, made especially to sell greeting cards. DEREK ARNOLD told the Washington Post:
"The message is to stop taking everything so seriously. Not everything's an issue."He's talking about the Internet faux pas known as using all-caps in a message, as we noted above. Generally, when someone does so, he or she is immediately shouted down (if it's a forum) for doing so.
The official website of International Caps Lock Day is nonsensical, and it's meant to be. In 2009, after the death of informercial king Billy Mays, the site named him the official unofficial Caps Lock Day person of the year, because "he talks like he's got his cap locks key on."
The site, confusingly, also lists June 28 as International Caps Lock Day. That's considered a secondary day, because it's also Billy Mays' birthday. There are knock-off days, but Arnold says Oct. 22 is the real deal, the only INTERNATIONAL Caps Lock Day.
