It's said the Hummingbird CPU in Samsung Galaxy S devices is great for gaming. With the release of a Playstation emulator in the Android Market, those with old Playstation games can put that to the test.

The emulator, psx4droid, costs $5.99 in the Android Market. As a 1.0 release, expect some bugs. Naturally, you should expect to have to run this on a higher-end Android phone.

Right now, as well, AppBrain more than a few reviews about problems authorizing the purchase, but that might be a Google Checkout problem. Here's how the emulator is described:
psx4droid, the Sony Playstation (PSX/PS1) emulator for high-end Androids.

Fast and feature packed including:
  • Uses formats BIN,ISO,IMG,PBP,Z,ZNX, and Eboot (compressed too)
  • WiiMote controller works
  • Trackball dpad
  • Memory card & save states.
  • Virtual control overlays
  • Scaling modes
  • more!
Potential users should be reminded that it is illegal to download a game ROM if you don't already own it. The developer of psx4droid also has an iOS version, but as you might expect, psx4iPhone or psx4iPad will require a jailbroken device.
