Another high-profile Android app has been ported to Android. The daily deal site Groupon has added a free Android version to the Android Market.

Groupon said that after its last iPhone release, there were tons of requests for an Android version. In reality, there were probably tons of requests even prior to that release.

The new app is available for all Android smartphones running Android 1.6 or higher.

Using the Groupon app, you can buy deals, access your purchased Groupons and find the ones that are nearby. You can also redeem deals from the app and view side deals by selecting the “More Deals” option in the deal page menu.

There's no Android widget yet, but Groupon says they are working on one for a later release.

It's nice to see folks realizing that with 160,000 Android phones a day being activated, the Android platform is a solid base to produce apps for. Now if we can just see people build for Android first, then the iPhone.
