Microsoft sends card, flowers to IE6 funeral
IE6 is still used by many, and it is like a weight holding back web design. Not only has it been surpassed at Microsoft by IE7 and IE8, there are plenty of non-Microsoft browsers such as Chrome and Firefox that offer more features and speed than even the latest IE.
The funeral was planned by Aten Design Group after Google announced on March 1st that Google Docs and Google Sites had discontinued support of the creaky old browser. YouTube will follow suit on March 13th.
The card said, ""Thanks for the good times IE6. See you all @ MIX when we show a little piece of IE Heaven."
MIX is a Microsoft conference, being held this year on March 15 - 17 in Las Vegas. MIX focuses on web design and web technologies.
While a funeral is premature, as a look at any statistics on visits to a site will show that it's still being used by quite a few people, even Microsoft would love to see the browser dead and buried. The company has publicly stated that users should move toward more secure, newer browsers such as IE7 and IE8.
Even without that sort of thought, one has to wonder: how do these people survive without browser tabs?
Rahul’s Dulhaniya Dimpy under Scanner
Maureen Wadia has slapped a show cause notice on Dimpy Ganguly for breaking an exclusive contract with Gladrags and taking part in a TV reality show. The Kolkata-based model is tipped to win the reality show on NDTV Imagine where the winner will get to marry Rahul Mahajan — son of late BJP leader Pramod Mahajan. The finale of the show airs tonight.
In a terse letter sent to the channel, Maureen has said that Dimpy had kept both her and the channel in the dark about her contract that prevented her from taking part in any TV show.
“She (Dimpy) has always been a problem child and had scant regard for discipline. We (the Gladrags Mega Model Hunt organisers) had a very tough time managing her. There were incidents where she would vanish at 3am and emerge a couple of hours later. Then she would say with a straight face that she had gone to meet a friend in Malad. Imagine a girl, who had come to Mumbai for the first time, going to Malad from Wadala at 3am just to meet friends! And now, I see the same girl turning coy, flirting with Rahul left, right and centre and promising to be a good wife,” says an irked Maureen.
Dimpy was born in Kolkata. She is 20 years old and her height is 5’6. She was one of the contestants of Gladrags MegaModel in 2009.
