On Tuesday, Apple announced it had filed a lawsuit against HTC, a smartphone OEM, for patent infringement. Apple claims that HTC infringed on 20 Apple patents related to the iPhone’s user interface, underlying architecture and hardware. The lawsuit was filed concurrently with the U.S. District Court in Delaware and the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC).
Interestingly, for those who think this is all about Android, it's just mostly about Android. The filing named not just Android devices like the Nexus One (above) and the Droid Eris, but the WM devices Touch Pro2 and Imagio.
Of course, these are all primarily touch screen devices, which is what the iPhone is.
In Apple's press release, Apple's CEO Steve Jobs said:
“We can sit by and watch competitors steal our patented inventions, or we can do something about it. We’ve decided to do something about it. We think competition is healthy, but competitors should create their own original technology, not steal ours.”
Apple made these sorts of comments about Palm's Pre and multi-touch when the Pre was announced. While the Palm webOS hasn't taken off, Android has, and the latest devices (such as the Nexus One) include multi-touch. Of course, that's just one of the issues.
Many analysts think the sheer number and variety of Android devices will eventually lead to Android overtaking the iPhone. Already, the platform is making major inroads into market share.
Apple's App Store has far more apps than the Android Market, and some developers writing apps that connect to credit card accounts and the like will never write for anything but the iPhone. Still, Android has reached critical mass in terms of apps, and there are plenty for just about anyone, and no draconian App Store approval process, either.

It is now safe to turn on your "fat" PS3s (above left) again, according to Sony. Yesterday the company warned that a system clock error was affecting all PS3s except the newer "slim" model, and that owners should keep them turned off. Time heals all wounds, however, and the company how says you can turn your systems back on.
The system clock error was actually that the "fat" PS3s thought 2010 was a leap year. After 24 hours, once system clocks rolled to March 1st, service (such as connectivity to PSN, errors in trophy data, etc., etc.) was restored.
So, the issues have been resolved, by time, without a firmware patch. Here's what Sony said:
We are aware that the internal clock functionality in the PS3 units other than the slim model, recognized the year 2010 as a leap year. Having the internal clock date change from February 29 to March 1 (both GMT), we have verified that the symptoms are now resolved and that users are able to use their PS3 normally.
If the time displayed on the XMB is still incorrect, users are able to adjust time settings manually or via the internet. If we have new information, we will update you through the PlayStation Blog or PlayStation.com.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.
It's hard to understand the programming error that caused this. The simple formula for determining if a year is a leap year is if the year is divisible by 4, it is a leap year unless the year is also divisible by 100 or 400.

All of us understand what the Chinese are capable of, don’t we. They get into all varieties of problems with auto manufacturers across the planet, and even after a few of their creations were forbidden from entering countries in Europe, they still won’t and can’t give up- Proof- An ATV derived from the Dodge Tomahawk by one proud Chinese firm.
The Tomahawk motorcycle was a concept bike built by Dodge which loaned its engine from the Dodge Viper Sportscar. The 8.3L V10 motor churned out 500HP, which took the bike to 60mph in about a second, but the Chinese double isn’t anywhere close. The 150cc that hides under all that lead-soaked paint and plastic produces a modest 10HP.
Probably, the only acceptable similarities the two vehicles hold, is that both are not street-legal. $1,500, and it’s all yours. The site claims it’s “One of a kind,” so make a fast decision!
